摘要

格罗史密斯兄弟是19世纪英国著名喜剧演员，由二人合著的《小人物日记》是典型的“英国式幽默”的代表，被英国讽刺小说大师伊芙琳·沃称为“世界上最有趣的小说”。《小人物日记》超越了传统意义上的小说，集独特的体裁和修辞手法于一体。它不是靠诙谐的语言来获得幽默、讽刺效果，而是通过对平凡生活的简单记录来引发读者的思考。小说的幽默流露于字里行间，让人忍俊不禁，又禁不住让人感到阵阵心酸。俏皮话贯穿《小人物日记》始终，其中大量的双关修辞更是彰显了维多利亚时期语言的魅力。本文将结合讽刺理论，从修辞手法，人文内涵，表达效果三个角度分析作品中诸多俏皮话的讽刺效果，旨在揭示作品主题。通过分析和解读并结合实际, 笔者认为：《小人物日记》具有很强的现实意义，从该小说中我们可以找到生活的希望和精神的慰藉。

Abstract

Brothers George and Weedon Grossmith are both famous British comedians in the nineteenth century. Their collaborative work, The Diary of A Nobody, is the typical representative of British humor and regarded as “the funniest book in the world” by Evelyn Waugh the great master of ironic novels. The Diary of A Nobody is beyond the traditional humor novels, and it combines the unique genre with the figure of speech. The book does not rely on the humorous language to obtain the comic and ironic effects, but to provoke readers to ponder by recording the ordinary life. The humors of this novel can be found between the lines, which sometimes make us laugh spontaneously, and sometimes make us feel grieved. Witticisms run throughout The Diary of A Nobody. And most of them are with the form of pun, which shows the charm of the Victorian language. The thesis aims to analyze the ironic effects of witticism in original work from the perspectives of rhetorical device, humanistic connotation and expressing effect, attempting to reveal the theme of work. Through a series of studies, our understanding of the work can be expanded. We can obtain the hope in life and spiritual comfort from this piece of work.
