On the Domestication and Foreignization in Eileen Chang’s Self-Translation of The Golden Cangue

摘要

在中国，张爱玲是少有的几个能娴熟运用汉英双语来写作并对其作品进行翻译的作家，其中以她的自译本《金锁记》尤为经典。对其采用的归化与异化这一翻译策略的研究，有助于其译本的完善。本文从归化与异化视角入手，深入剖析张爱玲自译本《金锁记》中语言与文化两个方面的翻译，得出张爱玲主要采用了以异化为主，归化为辅的翻译策略这一结论。

Abstract

In China, Eileen Chang is one of the few writers who can skillfully use Chinese and English to write and translate. And among her works, The Golden Cangue is the most successful. The study on the translation strategies of domestication and foreignization will make her translation perfect. This paper will deeply analyze The Golden Cangue on linguistic level and cultural level from the perspective of domestication and foreignization. Finally, the author of this paper reaches a conclusion that Eileen Chang should be mainly foreignizated with the assistance of domestication.
