汉英翻译中逻辑连词显化策略研究_英语论文

Research on strategies of explicitation of logical connectives in Chinese-English translation 

摘要

正确把握篇章逻辑关系是成功转化汉英翻译的基础，也是实现英语语篇衔接的关键。这篇论文以翻译显化和衔接理论为基础，从《中式英语之鉴》中的语料分析入手，研究探讨汉英翻译过程中逻辑连词的显化策略。通过译文修改前后的对比研究，再对照汉语原文，发现在原译文中起到句间衔接作用的逻辑连词在翻译过程中没有得到显化, 这一现象表明：母语为汉语的中国译者对篇章逻辑关系和逻辑连词的显化不甚敏感。由于受到中式思维的影响，中国译者在翻译汉英段落时常常发生逻辑连词缺失、误用的情况。针对不同情况，译者应在正确理解、把握篇章逻辑关系的基础上，在译文中显化逻辑连词。 本文围绕增词法，提出三种添加逻辑连词的翻译策略，即添加连词、添加副词或副词短语及添加连词和副词。

Abstract

Logical relation, the bottom line of cohesion in English texture, helps provide a solid foundation for success in Chinese-English translation. Based on the theories of translation explicitation and cohesion, this paper focuses on the strategies of explicitation of logical connectives by analyzing the examples of Chinese-English translation and revision concerning logical connectives in the Translator’s Guide to Chinglish. And the analysis of these examples lead to the conclusion: Chinese translators are not sensitive to explicitation of logical relation  of texture and particularly to choice of connecting words between sentences. Due to Chinese thinking pattern, typical Chinglish mistakes, for instance, missing, or wrong logical connectives, are often seen especially in translation of a text. Thus, the translator are required to have a thorough understanding of logical relation in the first place, and to add logical connectives accordingly. This paper puts forward three types of strategies of explicitation: addition of conjunctions, of adverbs or adverbial phrases, and of conjunctions and adverbs.
