从《史记·孔子世家》的翻译看林语堂的孔子观和儒家思想_英语论文

To reveal Lin Yutang’s view of Confucius an Confucianism from his translation of  K’ungtse Shinchina-- Shiki  

摘要

在全球化的今天，文化在综合国力竞争中的地位和作用更加凸显。各国纷纷把提高国家文化软实力作为主要发展战略。在这样的背景下，关于如何通过翻译传播中国文化的问题也吸引了国内学界的目光。林语堂是享誉海内外的学者、作家、翻译家。他游走在中西方文化之间，坚持向西方人介绍中国传统，并取得了巨大的成功。因此本文选取在文化传播领域中有较大影响的林语堂的《孔子的智慧》为研究对象，具体分析了林语堂在《史记﹒孔子世家》中特定词汇的创造性翻译如“仁”、“礼”，探究了林语堂的孔子观和儒家思想。正是林语堂对中国传统儒家思想的独特理解，使其翻译在中国文化海外传输中起到了很重要的作用，在西方受众引起了强烈反响。

Abstract

In an age of globalization, culture plays an increasing role in the competence of comprehensive national strength. Countries put the soft power enhancement at the core of their development strategies. Under this circumstance, how to promote Chinese culture through translation has drawn a lot of scholars’ attention. Lin Yutang, as a world-renowned scholar, writer and translator, insisted on introducing Chinese culture to the westerners and achieved great success. This thesis takes LinYutang’s The Wisdom of Confucius as an example, and analyzes Lin’s creative translation such as “ren” and “li” to explore Lin’s view of Confucius and Confucianism. Because of Lin’s unique understanding about Confucius that is welcome in western world, his translation plays an important role in the overseas transmission of Chinese culture.
