摘 要

中国的饮食文化博大精深,随着中国国际地位的日益提升,中国的饮食文化也愈加受到外界的关注。中餐是传播中国文化的一条重要渠道,准确而又形象的中餐菜肴英译对中国饮食文化的传播起着至关重要的作用。本文作者将介绍中西饮食文化差异下中国菜名的英译的背景,目的及意义,试图通过比较中西方饮食文化的差异,分析中国菜名英译存在的问题,并结合实际例子归纳菜名的翻译原则、技巧及方法。本文通过对中餐菜名的英译的分析,旨在提高菜名翻译的质量,促进跨文化交流,推动中国的饮食文化在世界范围内的传播。

Abstract

Chinese food culture is profound, with China’s international status rising, the Chinese food culture has become even more concerned by the outside world. Chinese food is an important channel for the dissemination of Chinese culture, accurate and vivid English translation of Chinese food dishes plays a vital role in the spread of Chinese food culture. The paper will introduce the background, purpose and significance of English translation of Chinese cuisine, through an analysis of food cultural differences between Chinese and western countries, the author tries to find the existing problems in English translation of Chinese cuisine, and sets examples to summarize the principles, techniques and methods in translating Chinese dishes. Through analyzing the English translation of Chinese dishes, the paper aims to improve the quality of the translation of Chinese cuisine’s names, to promote cross-cultural communication, and to promote the spread of Chinese food culture in the world.

1 Introduction
Chinese food culture is historic and profound and is famous for its rich flavors, unique local tastes and delightful colorings. With China’s international status rising, the Chinese food culture has become even more concerned by the outside world. Therefore, a very accurate and vivid English translation of Chinese cuisine is the task we should contribute to so that foreign friends can understand it clearly. However, there are some problems still existing in translation of Chinese cuisine. Through an analysis of food cultural differences between Chinese and western countries, the paper tries to point out the existing problems in English translation of Chinese cuisine, and sets examples to summarize the principles, techniques and methods in translating Chinese dishes. My hope is to improve the quality of the translation of Chinese cuisine’s names, to promote cross-cultural communication, and to promote the spread of Chinese food culture in the world.
