摘 要

成语不仅是日常交际也是学术研究的重要组成部分。为了探索英汉成语翻译的实用方法,作者搜集了许多与这方面相关的文献,了解到了许多翻译方法和相应的例子。有的学者提出了从接受美学视角探析汉语成语翻译,有的提出了成语的动态对等,有的则对英汉成语进行比较。通过对文献的查阅,比较,分析和归纳,作者认为要想真正掌握英汉成语翻译的实用方法,必须要落实到实践上。首先作者分析了习语的起源和定义,接着通过查阅资料通晓习语的各种翻译策略,其中包括直译,意译,借用,增词,减词和换词。然后通过两个不同的视角来阐述习语的翻译,一个视角是把习语从中文翻译到英语,并在此基础上列举了两种翻译策略,分别为全译和部分翻译;另一个视角则是把习语从英语翻译到中文,也相应的列举了几个例子。文本旨在帮助人们在中英文习语翻译之间建立桥梁。

Abstract
 
The idiom is an important part not only in daily communication but also in academic research. In order to explore the practical methods in idiom translation between English and Chinese, the author collected many relevant literatures and learned many translation approaches and corresponding examples. Some scholars pose the view of acceptable aesthetics analysis in terms of idioms translation, featuring dynamic equivalence, comparison between English and Chinese idioms. Through examining, comparing, analyzing and summarizing the literature, the author believes that it is a must to put idioms translation into practice for truly grasp. At first, the author analyse the origins and definition of idioms. Next, it is necessary to thoroughly understand all kinds of translation strategies through accessing to information, including the literal translation, the free translation, borrowing, amplification, omissions and changing words. Then, expound idioms translation via two sorts of perspectives, one is to translate idioms from Chinese to English, on this basis listing two translation approaches; the other is to translate idioms from English to Chinese, and also enumerate some corresponding examples. In a word, the purpose of this thesis is to help people build a bridge between Chinese and English on the aspect of idioms translation.

1 Introduction

    This paper introduces practical methods in idiom translation between English and Chinese. With the advent of information technology and economic globalization, people from all over the world get to establish more contacts than before. As everyone knows, the idiom, an important component of Chinese language and culture, is a treasure of the Chinese vocabulary and has come into being for a long time.
