Abstract:
 Film is considered to be an important art form, a source of popular entertainment and a powerful method for indoctrinating citizens. Compared with other kinds of literature works, films function more efficiently in the broadcasting of information and spreading of culture as they have a much wider scope of receivers and usually it takes less time for people to learn something through films rather than through novels. The translation of film titles has something in common with others forms of translation. Translators must possess excellent writing skills of both languages, and also have abundant knowledge both in translation and culture. However, the translation of film titles has its specialties, namely informational, cultural peculiarity, aesthetic consideration and commercial value. So the translation of film titles involves many factors.
    André Lefevere, professor of University of Texas at Austin, theorized translation as a form of rewriting produced and read with a set of ideological and political constraints within the target language cultural system. In his book Translation, Rewriting, and the Manipulation of Literary Fame, he summarized three factors which have great influence on translation, namely ideology, patronage and poetics. Based on his rewriting theory, this thesis provides four major factors in the English-Chinese translation of film titles, namely genre of the film, the usage habit of Chinese, commercial values of films and discrepancy of thinking patterns.

摘要:
电影是一种老少皆宜、雅俗共赏、人们喜闻乐见的艺术形式,它融合多种艺术手段,能传播信息、抒发感情、展现丰富多彩的生活,使观众得到艺术上的享受。如今大量影片被引进国内,同时越来越多的国产大片也走向国际舞台。那么如何让观众在观赏国外影片时获得与本国观众同样的艺术享受,影片的翻译工作便成了关注的焦点。一部好电影之所以能吸引成千上万的观众,除了演员的精湛演技、富有哲理的对话以外,与其寓意深刻、回味无穷的片名有着直接的联系。
    安德烈勒弗维尔提出了重写理论以及翻译的制约因素,即意识形态,赞助人和诗学。该论点的提出为人们在新的历史条件下进行翻译研究提供了有力支持,不仅提高了译作的地位 ,而且加深了人们对翻译本质的认识。基于这个理论,该论文从影片类型,汉语使用习惯,商业利益以及思维差异四个方面对英文影片片名的翻译进行了分析。

1 Introduction
In the last few decades, Chinese film industry has seen a rapid growth. On the one hand, many foreign films have been imported and welcomed by the Chinese audience; on the other hand, more and more Chinese films have been brought into other nations. It is known to all that the title of a film is very important in that it can draw audiences to the cinema and also reveals some aspects of culture.
