摘要

    近年来，中国开始承办各种各样的国际性活动和会议。随着越来越多的国际友人来到中国,双语公示语的重要作用开始日渐显现出来。然而，我国公示语翻译所出现的问题和错误屡见不鲜。这不仅会造成社会秩序的紊乱,而且会影响中国的国际影响和地位。因此，我国公示语翻译所出现的问题函待解决。本文给出了在公示语翻译方面现存的常见错误并且尝试给出一些建议，旨在发挥公示语的真正作用。

Abstract

Nowadays, all kinds of international conventions and activities are held in China. As the increasing number of foreign visitors stream into China, the bilingual public signs tend to play more and more important part in international communication. However, there are numerous problems in the C-E translation of public signs. These mistakes will not only cause social disorder, but more seriously, they will degrade China’s international status as a major role on the global platform. Thus, these issues need to be solved. In this paper, it gives the analysis of the common errors in the translation of public signs and the author will try to propose some practical suggestions of these problems.

1.Introduction
    With the progress of China’s internationalization, China is offered more opportunities to communicate and cooperate with foreign countries. In this situation, increasing number of cities tend to adopt the bilingual public signs to welcome and give the directions to the foreign guests. Public signs are of significance in regulating social behavior, adjusting individual relationship, enhancing productivity and some other social aspects. However, there are many problems in the C-E translation of public signs and it not only makes many confusions to the foreigners but also affects the international image of China.　
    The errors in C-E translation have drawn much attention of the experts in this field. As a result, academic researches on C-E sign translation are prevailing recently.
    In 2003, the first special dictionary in China on standardization of Chinese-English and English-Chinese sign translation edited by Yu Fuling was published. Then Lü Hefa and Shan Liping of Beijing International Studies University edited A Chinese-English Dictionary on Signs which was published by the Commercial Press in 2004. So far, we have made great strides in C-E sign translation. More importantly, "The 1st Symposium on C&E Signs in a Global Context" was held on Sep.25一27, 2005 in Beijing International Studies University, which indicated that the research on C-E sign translation had made a quite great progress.
