Abstract

Chinese culinary enjoys a good reputation at home and abroad and Chinese food culture as a significant part in Chinese culture has been playing an increasing role in cross-cultural transmission under the background of globalization. As an important component of Chinese food culture, English translation of Chinese dish names is particularly important in facilitating transmission of Chinese food culture and promoting intercultural communication. Since Chinese dish names not only demonstrate the external meaning such as flavor and ingredient, but also convey cultural collocation, translators should take cultural differences into consideration to attain the goal of reliable and expressive translation which can be accepted by foreigners and help them understand the rich culture information implicated in the Chinese dish names.
In this paper, the author firstly makes an introduction of the background and contents of this paper. Chapter one analyzes the cultural differences between Chinese and western food culture; chapter two discusses cultural differences and translation; chapter three introduces with examples that five methods can be adopted to translate Chinese dish names. Finally, the author makes a conclusion. Through analysis of English translation of the names of Chinese dishes, the author hopes to bring people’s attention to the issue so that Chinese food culture can get a better transmission and intercultural communication can be promoted.

摘  要

中国菜肴在国内外都享有盛誉。而中国饮食文化作为中国文化的一个重要组成部分在全球化背景下的跨文化交流中发挥着日益重要的作用。因此,作为中国饮食文化的一个重要方面,为了促进中国饮食文化的传播和加强跨文化交流,中国饮食的英译就显得尤为重要。鉴于中式菜名不仅体现着口味和材料等外在含义,还可以出传达文化内涵,因此译者应该借鉴中西方文化差异来实现可靠有效的翻译,以便让外国人民接受并帮助他们理解中式菜名中蕴含的文化内容。
笔者首先对论文背景和内容进行了介绍。文章在第一部分分析中西方饮食文化的差异。第二部分介绍了文化差异同翻译的关系。第三部分结合实例介绍了可以用于翻译中式菜名的五种方法。最后,作者进行了总结。通过对中式菜名英译的分析,笔者希望能引起人们对此问题的重视,帮助传播中国饮食文化并促进跨文化交流。
