摘要

信用证支付方式是当前国际贸易中最主要的付款方式，然而，在信用证的实际操作中，由于外贸从业人员的专业及英语水平不一，常出现错误理解信用证条款的情况，给企业带来不应有的损失。故本文立足于信用证具有法律文书用词严谨的语言特色，通过列举信用证翻译的实例，从信用证中正式用语、介词、一词多义、模糊语的使用等词汇特点和长句、被动语态、条件句、平行结构的使用等句法特征，来分析其语言特色，讨论并提出翻译信用证时应注意的问题和方法技巧，以便读者能更好地理解和翻译信用证，从而减少因误解或误译造成的损失，更好地促进我国对外贸易的发展。

Abstract

Payment by L/C is the main method of payment in international trade. However, in actual operations to the L/C, due to varying specialty and English proficiency of professional trade practitioners, not fully understanding or even misunderstanding the terms of L/C often appear, which brings undue damages to enterprises or local units. Therefore, this thesis, by way of examples, based on credit language with the linguistic features of legal documents, analyzes its language features from the perspectives of lexical characteristics (wide use of formal words, prepositions, polysemy, and vague expression) and syntactic features (common use of long sentences, passive sentences, parallel structures, and conditional sentences). Besides, this paper discusses and proposes problems needing paying attention to when in translation, and some translation skills and methods are also introduced. The purpose of this thesis is to help readers understand and translate L/C better, thereby reducing losses due to misunderstanding or mistranslation to better promote the development of China foreign trade.
