摘  要

“释意理论”又称“释意学派翻译理论”,于20世纪70年代由巴黎高等翻译学校的达妮卡·塞莱斯柯维奇教授及玛丽亚娜·勒代雷教授提出。该学派的主要观点是:翻译即释意。释意理论自诞生至今,在口译研究及教学领域影响颇大,占据了口译研究领域从上世纪70年代至80年代末的主导地位。在标志着口译研究转向的“的里雅斯特口译大会”之后,它受到众多的批评。但对于口译研究这个年轻的领域来说,释意理论作为历史上为数不多的主流理论之一,其理论贡献和历史意义仍值得深入探讨。本文对释意理论关键概念及其主要观点进行追本溯源,然后简要概括对释意理论质疑的观点,旨在从理论角度展现了释意理论的研究,并梳理出释意理论的主要成就与争议。

Abstract

“The Theory of Sense”, also known as “The Interpretive Theory of Translation”, was first put forward in 1970s by Professor Danica Seleskovitch and Professor Marianne Lederer at the most famous translating training school in Paris—ESIT. The essence of the theory is: Translating and interpreting are interpretive processes. The Interpretive Theory sees interpreting properly as a means of communication which focuses on the transmission of messages. It holds that the perception and comprehension, deverbalization, reproduction of the intended meaning of the original speaker constitute the whole cognitive process of interpreting with deverbalization as the critical intermediate stage of information processing. The theory has resulted in tremendous influence on interpreting research and educational circles since its debut, dominating the interpreting field from early 1970s to late 1980s. After the conference which marked the transition of interpreting research held in Trieste, Italy, critical opinions gradually began from the academic world. However, as one of the few mainstream theories in the field of interpreting research throughout the history, Interpretive Theory with its achievements and significance is still worth further study. This paper gives an introduction tot the major concepts and basic view of the Interpretive Theory, and then briefly summarizes the controversial ideas with the aim to present interpreting research from theoretical perspective and conclude the main achievements and controversy of Interpretive Theory.
