Abstract
This paper will present the necessity and possibility of  bilingual dictionaries’ setting up the cultural information from the perspective of relationship between language, culture and dictionaries, the informative and encyclopedic character of bilingual dictionaries and learners' language acquisition needs. Based on the investigation of cultural information in large bilingual dictionaries, we use the examples to explain how the bilingual dictionary can set cultural information effectively and reasonably, so as to lead the bilingual dictionary to become a favorable dictionary, making the cultural transmission as an important task and method in the dictionary compilation.

本文从语言、文化和词典的关系、双语词典的信息性和百科性以及学习者语言习得需求角度阐述双语词典设置文化信息的必要性和可能性。在此基础上通过对数部大型英汉词典文化信息的对比调查，以实例说明英汉词典中有效合理设置文化信息的多种途径，以期引导双语词典的编纂者充分利用词典这个有利阵地，把传递文化信息作为编纂词典的一个重要任务和手段。

Culture phenomenon exists everywhere. It is the soul of the society，and all experience, perception, customs, science and technology belong to it. For a long time, ways in which traditional bilingual dictionaries provide cultural information mainly include the definition, cultural notes, language information, and illustrations. But in the aspect of cultural expression，it is not intuitive, vivid and concrete. The readers are vulnerable to the influence of their native culture, blocking their second language cultural acquisition. Through comparisons of the cultural information and setting ways of different English Chinese bilingual dictionaries, especially the comparison of some idioms, proverbs, and literary quotations, the readers can have a deeper understanding of the historical origins, territorial environments, habits and customs, modes of thinking, and cultural backgrounds of different nations, so as to steer away from the related obstacles in intercultural communication.
