On Metaphor Translation in Li Qingzhao’s Works

摘要

中国传统文化向外传播，古典诗词是重要组成部分。隐喻是诗歌的灵魂，对其进行翻译具有重要的意义。本文首先对前人的研究进行了梳理，包括隐喻的定义、分类、特点以及翻译的基本原则。然后通过分析李清照诗词中的隐喻，探讨其翻译方法。研究表明，李清照诗词中的隐喻大致可分为四类，即具象化、拟人化、拟物化和用典化。对此，以下四种翻译方法行之有效，它们是直译、意译、转译和注译。

Abstract

Chinese Ci Poems are important in the spread of Chinese traditional culture. Metaphor is the spirit of poems so that it is significant to translate it into English. This thesis firstly combed the previous studies, including the definition, classifications, characteristics of the metaphor and its basic translation principles. Then, translation methods were discussed by analyzing the metaphors in Li Qingzhao’s works. The research shows that the metaphors in Li Qingzhao’s works can be roughly divided into four types: visualization, personification, objectification and allusion. It is discovered that the following four translation methods are effective. They are literal translation, free translation, transformation and annotation.
