摘　要

书名是整部作品的点睛之笔，书名的翻译自然具有开门点睛的作用。它是整部作品的浓缩与精华，并有着自己独特的审美要求。因此书名的翻译是在翻译作品时很重要的一步，需要特别的关注。而中国的古典四大名著不仅在中国文学史上占有举足轻重的地位, 随着其译本的传播, 对世界文学也产生了重要影响。由于中美文化的不同，在进行书名翻译时会出现一书多个书名翻译的情形，这会对读者产生混淆，也不利于中国古典名著的跨文化交流。本文主要分析了中国古典四大名著较为流行的英译本的书名，分析了产生这样情形的原因，并探讨了如何进行书名翻译的一些原则。

Abstract

Book title is the soul of the whole book, and book title translation surely plays an essential part in the translation of the whole writing and thus requires special consideration. It is the enrichment and essence of the whole books, and has its own unique aesthetic requirements. Therefore the title translation is a very important step in translation for the special attention. The four famous Chinese classical literary history, not only occupies a pivotal position in china ,but also play a significant impact with the spread of its translations of world literature. As the cultural differences between China and Unite States, it will appear many book title with one book when translating, which would make the confuse to reader, is also not conducive to the Chinese classic cross-cultural exchanges. This article analyzes the popular English translation of the Chinese classic title. Analyzes the reasons to result such situations, and discusses some principles for how to translate the title.

1 Introduction
Culture is defined as the knowledge, beliefs, customs, and habits a group of people share. These are not inherited behaviors, but learned. Culture is passed on from generation to generation. Each ethnic group has its own culturally based foods the title translation. These traditions have been influenced and adapted through contact with the mainstream culture.So,this paper will introduce the cultural differences between China and the United States to the influence of Chinese classics title translation. And how this differences come from. Besides, it will also introduce some principles in the translation of titles and terms in Chinese Classics.
The title is the important part of a book. It is the eyes of the book, abstracting readers, and which may imply the theme of the story written by a book or tell the reader the category of the book.
