摘 　要

本文主要从文化内涵和翻译的角度讨论了英语中的动物词。众所周知，语言作为人类沟通工具的同时也传递了文化信息。动物词这种文化在语言中起着至关重要的作用。由于语言是文化的载体，它受历史、经济和其他方面的影响深远。因此，各国间动物词的文化内涵各有不同。本文首先介绍了背景信息和研究目的；其次呈现了动物词的概念和基本特征；然后陈列了英语中动物词的文化内涵以及翻译成中文的主要方法；最后陈述了其文化内涵及翻译的重要性。为了更加深入的了解，本文采用了比较研究方法中的同类比较的研究方法，使读者近一步掌握中英动物词的文化差异。这些发现对跨文化交际和翻译实践有着深远的指导意义。另外，研究能够使读者提高自身的文化灵敏度以及在跨文化交际中正确使用语言的意识。

Abstract

This paper is mainly about animal words in English from the perspective of cultural connotation and translation. Proverbially, languages are used as tools for human to communicate which at the meantime convey cultural information. Animal words, a kind of culture, play a vital part in language. Since language is considered as the carrier of culture, it is influenced considerably by history, economy and other aspects. Therefore, the cultural connotation of animal words varies from country to country. This paper firstly introduces the background information and the purpose. Secondly, it presents the concept of animal words and probes into basic characteristics of animal words in English. In the following sections, cultural connotation of those English animal words and four major methods of translation to deal with those animal words from English to Chinese are displayed. Finally, it states the significance of cultural connotation and translation of animal words in English. In order to get a deep understanding of various cultural connotations and meanings of animal words in English and translate them into proper Chinese, this paper applies the analogy of comparative method. The findings are not only interesting, but also have profound instructive significance for cross-cultural communication and translation practice. Through the comparative study, readers can further understand cultural differences of animal words between English and Chinese. And those pragmatic mistakes in communication can be reduced. In addition, it will help readers improve their cultural sensitivity and the senses of using language in a proper way in cross-cultural communication.
