摘要

中国近代著名翻译家严复所提出的翻译“信达雅”标准在中国翻译史上占有极为重要的地位。但是不少学者认为严复自己在翻译过程中却并没有严格恪守这一标准。本文从变译理论的角度，以严复译作《社会通诠》为研究对象，着重分析严复在翻译此书中的变译现象，并对严复的翻译加以评价。

Abstract

Yan Fu, the famous translator in modern China, stated in the preface to his translation of Evolution and Ethics that “there are three difficulties in translation: faithfulness, expressiveness, and elegance”. The three criteria of translation have been used as the standard for good translation and have become a cliché in Chinese academic circles of translation. However, scholars don’t think that Yan abided by these criteria in his translation practice. This paper aims to analyze the occurrence of translation variation of Yan Fu’s A Short History of Politics from the perspective of Variation Theory.
