Abstract and Key Words

Abstract: Since the reform and opening-up, the translation of Chinese political writings has become an important medium for foreigners to know China's development. Although many translators have made great contributions in this field, problems that exist are still prevalent in political writings these days and the quality of translations leaves much to be desired. As political writings are closely related with culture, this thesis analyzes the political writings from the angle of culture. This thesis is an attempt to give an in-depth analysis of the possible cultural reasons for the existence of problems in C-E translation of political writings. Then the author suggests strategies and methods to solve these problems. The author hopes that the quality of translations of political writings aimed at the foreign readership can be improved.

摘要：改革开放以来，中国政论文的翻译已成为外国人了解中国发展的重要媒介。虽然许多翻译家在此方面做出了很大的贡献，这些年来政论文翻译中的问题仍然存在，质量有待提高。由于政论文与文化紧密相连，本文从文化角度对政论文进行分析，旨在深入分析造成翻译问题的文化因素。最后作者提出解决问题的策略和方法，以期提高政论文翻译的质量。

1. Introduction
With the increasing economic development and expanding international influence of China, various documents that need to be translated are on the rise. Political writings are of no exception. As a way for foreigners to know about China’s political policies and principles, political writings play an essential role in offering them a correct view. Therefore, the translation of political writings is of great importance.
As we all know, Chinese political writings are heavily tinted with culture with Chinese characteristics. Considering this, approaches may be divided into domestication which is TL culture-oriented and foreignization which is SL culture-oriented. Although many efforts have been made in this respect, there still exist two prevailing problems. This thesis attempts to explore effective strategies for C-E translation of Chinese political writings from the perspective of culture. Therefore, this thesis is of value both theoretically and practically because it sheds a light on how to take cultural differences into account and how to reproduce faithfully the core of the original text and at the same time maintaining the readability of the translated version.
