Abstract:

As we all know that translation, as one of the key media, plays a very significant part during the process of cultural communication. However, there are unavoidable barriers among different languages and different cultures when we communicate with each other. This essay introduces the definition of idioms, and some different views upon idioms. It analyzes the reflection of cultural differences upon the translation of Chinese and English idioms. These cultural differences are caused by different traditional customs, different geographical environment, different religions and beliefs, different fables and mythologies and different literature. Additionally, it also talks about the different diets and different views upon animals. Idioms are expressions of these cultural differences. This article presents a lot of idiom examples to show the cultural differences. Through this article, I hope to help us improve our knowledge of idioms and enhance our ability to use idioms to communicate with others

摘  要：

众所周知，翻译作为一种重要媒介，在文化交流活动中扮演着十分重要的角色，但是有许多不可避免的隔阂阻碍着不同语言和不同文化间的顺畅交流。本文介绍了习语的定义，以及一些习语的不同观点。并且分析了文化差异在中英习语翻译中的表现，这些文化差异是由不同的传统习俗，不同的地理环境，不同的民间故事和传说，不同的宗教和信仰，不同的文学造成的。此外，还介绍了不同的饮食习惯以及关于动物的不同观点。习语恰好是这些文化差异的表现。本文列举了很多习语的例子来展现这些文化差异。我希望通过这篇文章来让读者更好的了解和认识习语，提高读者对中西文化差异方面的知识水平，以便达到更好的交流效果。
