Abstract:

Language and culture are related with each other. No language in the world is without expression or its culture in which the language is used (spoken and written). Language is deeply rooted in culture, and both of them have mutual influence and penetration. The culturally-loaded words are the crystallization of language and culture and reflect a nation’s history and culture, local conditions and customs and lifestyle. No translation can be separated from the cultural context, and the translation intends to present the ideological content and values of the source language to the target language readers as well as to achieve intercultural communication; therefore, translation is inevitably a cultural translation. However, big differences between Chinese and western cultures and the inherent characteristics of some culturally-loaded words make English difficult to translate and retain the characteristics of the source language culture, and as a result, it influences the development of cross-cultural communication activity to a certain extent. Hence the study of English translation of Chinese culturally-loaded words from the cultural perspective is important and worthwhile. Such a study is significant in that it will promote the exchange between the source language and target language cultures.

摘要：

语言与文化密不可分,任何一种语言必然承载着某种文化。语言深深地植根于文化之中，两者互为影响，相互渗透。文化负载词汇是语言与文化的结晶。它反映了某个民族的历史文化、风土人情以及生活方式。任何翻译活动都无法脱离文化语境，翻译的任务是将源语的思想内容和价值观念展现给目标语读者，其目的是实现文化间的交流，因而，翻译必然是文化翻译。然而，中西文化差异的客观存在以及部分文化负载词汇的固有特点使其英译很难完整传递源语文化特色，在一定程度上影响了跨文化交际活动的开展。从文化角度探讨汉语文化负载词的英译非常有意义，并对促进源语文化与目标语文化的交流具有重要的现实意义。

Introduction
There are many common points in Chinese and western culture. Generally speaking, culture is the synthesis of all the material and spiritual treasure that created by human being, including ideological part (conception system of world/life/value) and non-ideological part (natural science and technology/language/characters). Culture is a peculiar phenomenon in the human society. More specifically, culture consists of ideology and the corresponding institutional and organizational structure: lifestyle, values and ways of thinking. In a word, culture bears a clear national characteristic.
